Dragon Updates and New Quest!

Hey there, heroes!

This week in DragonFable, we have an overhaul of the baby dragon as well as a new quest from Dove in Bk3 Sunbreeze Grove!

First off, your dragon has some big questions! Head over to Book 3 Sunbreeze Grove and talk to Dove for some... answers? Explore the Whispering Steppes and the ruins of an ancient monastery in this week's quest: Monastery.

You must have grown your baby dragon at least once (to toddler or older) and completed the Book 3 Calamity story to play this quest (and you need a Dragon Amulet!).

Next up, we have a major overhaul of the baby dragon.

Previously, the baby dragon's skills relied too much on randomness. There were many possible effects for each skill type, and it wasn't reliable to use when you needed it.

This overhaul aimed to make baby dragon skills reliable and consistent, as well as giving the baby dragon a much needed boost.

Skill Changes:

All skill types now have two tiers of skills instead of the previous 5 tiers and 1 capstone.

The first tier unlocks with one point in a skill, and the second tier unlocks with 100 points in a skill.

Baby dragons can only use tier one skills, toddler and above can use all skill tiers, and kid dragons can use their Primal skill as well.

Protection:

  • Tier 1:
    • Heal Ally
      • Cooldown: 15
      • This skill will heal the hero for (0.04*(protection skill level + 2) + 4)% of the hero's maximum HP.
      • So, at 100 Protection, this skill will heal the hero for 8% of their maximum HP
  • Tier 2:
    • Dragon's Scales
      • Cooldown: 20
      • This skill will increase the hero's Avoidance by (protection skill level) for 2 turns.
      • So, at 100 Protection, this skill will give the hero 100 Avoidance for 2 turns.

Magic:

  • Tier 1:
    • Magic Beam
      • Cooldown: 5
      • This skill launches a powerful beam attack that gains Boost equal to (magic skill level / 2).
      • At 100 Magic, this skill will have 50 Boost on attack.
  • Tier 2:
    • Supernova
      • Cooldown: 20
      • Your dragon launches a powerful weakness seeking blast with Boost and Crit equal to (magic skill level).
      • At 100 Magic, this skill will have 100 Boost and 100 Crit (50%) on attack.

Fighting:

  • Tier 1:
    • Tail Lash
      • Cooldown: 5
      • Your dragon smacks your foe with its tail, doing damage (boosted by fighting skill level / 4) and applying a DoT effect equal to (fighting skill level / 4) + 10 for 3 turns.
      • At 100 Fighting, this skill will have 25 Boost on attack, and apply a DoT effect of 30-40 damage for 3 turns.
  • Tier 2:
    • Outrage
      • Cooldown: 20
      • Your dragon goes on a rampage, clawing your foe 4 times in a row for 40% damage, increased by 1% for every 10 points in Fighting. This skill also applies a DoT effect equal to (fighting skill level / 2) + 10 for 3 turns
      • At 200 Fighting, this skill will do 4 hits of 60% damage, and apply a DoT effect of 105-115 damage for 3 turns.

Assistance:

  • Tier 1:
    • Dragon Scout
      • Cooldown: 9
      • Your dragon scouts out the enemy, increasing your Bonus to hit by (assistance skill level / 2) for 4 turns.
      • At 100 Assistance, your dragon will increase your Bonus by 50 for 4 turns.
  • Tier 2:
    • Overcharge
      • Cooldown: 20
      • Your dragon lends you some of its power, boosting your damage by (assistance skill level / 10) + 5 for 2 turns.
      • At 200 Assistance, your dragon will increase your Boost by 25 for 2 turns.

Mischief:

  • Tier 1:
    • Noxious Fumes
      • Cooldown: 20
      • Your dragon spits out a toxic cloud of vapor at your enemy, stunning them for 1 turn, and bypassing (mischief skill level / 2) Immobility resistance.
      • At 100 Mischief, this skill will bypass 50 Immobility resistance and stun the enemy for 1 turn.
  • Tier 2:
    • Tickles!
      • Cooldown: 20
      • Your dragon tickles your enemy, reducing their Boost, Bonus, and All resistance.
      • Enemy Bonus is reduced by 33% of mischief skill level.
      • Enemy Boost is reduced by 10% of mischief skill level.
      • Enemy All resistance is reduced by 5% of mischief skill level.

Primal Fury

  • Cooldown: 20 (cross battle and quest)
  • Your dragon does 3 hits of 50% damage, guaranteed to Crit.

Your dragon now also has a unique way of scaling with Charisma! Along with the normal damage bonus, every skill's cooldown is reduced by the player's CHA stat / 50, up to a maximum of 4 turns at 200 CHA. This means for every 50 CHA you have, the cooldowns of the above skills are reduced by 1, to a maximum of 4 turns at 200 CHA.

Not only that, if you train Magic or Fighting, your dragon has a chance to do a special boosted attack instead of their breath attack.

Both attacks are boosted by skill level / 5. So at 200 Magic, this attack will do 140% damage.

Now this sounds great and all, but another issue with the dragon was that you could only select these skills when you had the dragon as a guest.

With this release, if you have Manual Pet Turns checked in your options, you will be able to manually command your pet dragon in battle, selecting which skills to use, and when. No more randomness!

Dragon base damage has also been increased significantly. Dragon average damage is now based off of 85% of your level, + and - your level divided by 9.

For example, at level 90, your dragon's base damage is now 67 to 87.

The Dragon Amulet interface and Dragon Training interface have also had some major updates and quality of life changes.

  • You can now buy Dragon Chow and reset Dragon skills directly from the Dragon Amulet interface.
  • Many buttons no longer abruptly close the interface when they complete their task.
  • Baby dragon owners can now dismiss their pet dragon.
  • When changing dragon element, the large Dragon Amulet will now glow, if you are currently Primal.
  • When changing dragon element, your current element will now glow.
  • When changing your dragon's element, it will default to your current element and Primal state.
  • You must confirm your dragon's element to leave the change element interface.
  • There is now a Reset Changes button in the Dragon Skills training interface.
    • This button reverts all of your changes in that session.
  • You can now train your dragon by 10s!
  • The Save Skills button no longer has a redundant and informationless confirmation pop up.
  • When training by 10s (for dragon skills AND player stats), if you have fewer than 10 points remaining, it will use up the remaining points.
    • For example, if you had 5 skill points left, and you are training by 10s, it will now assign those 5 skill points, instead of forcing you to swap back to 1s for the remainder.

Note: The dragon element change changes do not affect the Element swappers in Sunbreeze Grove.

Other fixes and changes:

  • Player (not guest or pet) cooldowns that last between battles will now reset between quests.
  • Fixed other miscellaneous bugs.

And that's all for this week!

Next week, I'm off on vacation, so you'll have something very neat cooked up by Dove and Dracelix for this year's final anniversary month release.

I can't wait to see how it turns out!
